Thursday Results
Four games. Two upsets. Zero boring moments.
No. 2 Purdue survived No. 11 Texas with a late bucket. The Longhorns Cinderella run finally ended but they made Purdue earn every point. Texas went from First Four to Sweet 16 as an 11-seed — one of the best tournament runs by any team this year.
No. 9 Iowa knocked off No. 4 Nebraska in the all-Big Ten rivalry game nobody expected at this stage. The Hawkeyes already upset defending champion Florida in the second round. Now they are two wins from the Final Four as a 9-seed.
The Late Games
No. 3 Illinois took down No. 2 Houston in a game that was tied with 3 minutes left. Illinois pulled away late and advances to the Elite Eight. Another Big Ten team moving on — the conference is dominating this tournament.
No. 1 Arizona handled No. 4 Arkansas comfortably. The Wildcats look like the best team remaining on the 1-seed line and are rolling into the Elite Eight with momentum.
Friday Sweet 16
Four more games today. No. 1 Duke vs No. 5 Clemson. No. 1 Michigan vs No. 5 Oregon. No. 3 Michigan State vs No. 2 UConn — Izzo vs Hurley. And No. 2 Alabama vs No. 3 Marquette.
The Big Ten could put 5 teams in the Elite Eight. That has never happened.
