Everyone claims their AI trading bot makes money. Nobody shows receipts. I decided to test this myself: $10,000 split across 5 AI crypto trading bots for 30 days. Here's every bot, every trade, every dollar.
The Test Setup
$2,000 per bot. Trading BTC and ETH only (most liquid markets). 30-day test period in February 2026 (a volatile month due to Iran tensions). No manual intervention — fully automated.
Bot 1: 3Commas AI ($49/mo) — Result: +8.2%
Strategy: DCA bot with AI-optimized entry points. Buys dips based on technical indicators and volume analysis. Sells at preset profit targets.
Trades: 47 total. Win rate: 68%. Average win: +3.2%. Average loss: -1.8%.
Verdict: Solid, boring, profitable. The best result for the lowest stress. Recommended for beginners.
Bot 2: Pionex Grid Bot (Free) — Result: +5.1%
Strategy: Grid trading — buys low, sells high within a defined range. Works beautifully in sideways/volatile markets. AI optimizes grid spacing.
Trades: 312 total. Many small wins. The Iran-driven volatility was perfect for grid trading.
Verdict: Free and profitable. The catch: grid bots lose during strong trending moves (misses the full upside).
Bot 3: Bitsgap AI ($29/mo) — Result: +12.4%
Strategy: AI combines grid trading with trend-following. Adapts grid positions based on market momentum.
Trades: 189 total. Captured both the range and the eventual breakout above $100K BTC.
Verdict: Best performer. The adaptive AI genuinely added value over static strategies.
Bot 4: Stoic AI ($9.99/mo) — Result: -3.7%
Strategy: AI portfolio rebalancing based on market regime detection. More conservative — aims for long-term outperformance.
Trades: 12 total. Too slow to capture short-term opportunities. Got caught flat during the oil-spike selloff.
Verdict: Designed for longer time horizons. 30 days isn't enough to judge fairly, but the short-term result was disappointing.
Bot 5: Shrimpy AI ($15/mo) — Result: -18.2%
Strategy: Social trading — copies "top performing" AI strategies from other users. The "top performer" I followed had 90% drawdown during the test.
Verdict: Avoid social/copy trading bots. Past performance doesn't predict future results, and the "top strategies" are often the most leveraged (= biggest drawdowns).
Total Results
Starting capital: $10,000. Ending capital: $10,038. Net return: +0.38% ($38).
The honest truth: AI crypto bots are NOT a money printer. The best ones (Bitsgap, 3Commas) genuinely help in volatile markets. The worst ones lose your money. And on average, you'd have done better just holding BTC (+18% in the same period).
